Quantifying Waterfowl Numbers: Comparison of Drone and Ground-Based Survey Methods for Surveying Waterfowl on Artificial Waterbodies

چکیده
Drones are becoming a common method for surveying wildlife as they offer an aerial perspective of the landscape. For waterbirds in particular, drones can overcome challenges associated with locations not accessible on foot. With rapid uptake drone technology bird surveys, there is need to compare and calibrate new technologies existing survey methods. We compared waterfowl counts derived from ground- drone-based sought determine if group size waterbody influenced difference between non-nesting detection species varied Surveys were carried out at constructed irrigation dams wastewater treatment ponds throughout Riverina region New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Data analyzed using Bayesian multilevel models (BMLM) weakly informative priors. Overall, drone-derived greater (+36%) than ground spotting scope (β_ground= 0.64 [0.62–0.66], (R2 = 0.973)). Ground also tended underestimate groups. Waterbody had effect comparative counts, being proportionally less (mean 0.74). The number identified each type was similar regardless method. Drone-derived more accurate traditional but do have some drawbacks including initial equipment costs time-consuming image or photo processing. Future surveys should consider accurately waterbirds, especially when large groups birds present larger waterbodies.

the rationale behind the present study is that particular learning strategies produce more effective results when applied together. the present study tried to investigate the efficiency of the semantic-context strategy alone with a technique called, keyword method. to clarify the point, the current study seeked to find answer to the following question: are the keyword and semantic-context metho...

Hematologic parameters were studied in giant Canada geese (Branta canadensis maxima), mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos platyrhynchos) and various species of diving ducks at seasinal intervals throughout the year. Highest values for packed cell volume, hemoglobin content and erythrocyte counts were found in the winter and pre-nesting periods. Mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglo...

متن کاملThe effects of harvest on waterfowl populations
Change in the size of populations over space and time is, arguably, the motivation for much of pure and applied ecological research. The fundamental model for the dynamics of any population is straightforward: the net change in the abundance is the simple difference between the number of individuals entering the population and the number leaving the population, either or both of which may chang...
